Lose Weight, Feel Great
Have you tried virtually every diet, pill and exercise routine to lose weight? If you haven’t been successful, there may be another option: bariatric surgery. Today, there are several options in weight loss surgery.
Gastric Band
This procedure limits the amount of food you are able to eat. A band is inserted around the middle of the stomach. It basically creates a smaller stomach area, so you feel full faster. A tube is attached to the band which can be adjusted, if necessary. This procedure is very effective. On average, most patients lose half a stone a month. If necessary, the procedure is reversible.
Gastric Bypass
This is considered major surgery and involves stapling the stomach into two sections. The smaller top part is your new stomach. Then, your food bypasses the rest of the stomach and goes into the small intestine. The small stomach makes you feel full faster. This procedure results in significant weight loss, usually one stone a month. However, it is very difficult to reverse the surgery.
Gastric Balloon
The balloon does not require invasive surgery. It is inserted into your stomach and inflated with saline. It gives you the impression of feeling full; hence you eat less. The balloon is typically left in place for six months. While the balloon is in place, you work with a dietician to learn healthy eating habits.
Liposuction
This procedure is usually considered cosmetic and not medically necessary. It removes the excess fat and reshapes your body. However, it has no impact on your stomach and will not directly impact eating habits.
There are many weight loss surgery options available. Be sure to properly investigate all options including costs and side effects before choosing the best option for you. Before long, you will be losing weight and feeling great!
